Youth Athletics

Basketball: The youth basketball program is a competitive recreational league open for boys ages 6 to 13 and girls ages 6 to 12.  The program focuses on the FUNdamentals dribbling, passing, shooting, rebounding, defending and teamwork.

  • Pooler Recreation supplies uniforms. Parents will provide shoes.
  • Registration begins the second week of October and runs thru the first week of November. Practices begin the first week of December and run thru the first week of January.  The season will run thru the middle of February. Age control date is January 1st.
  • Each team only practices two times per week, and  the practices could occur Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday nights, as well as Saturday morning.  Once games begin, there are no more regularly scheduled practices.  Coaches will have to call to reserve any available practice time.  All games and practices are held at the Pooler Gym, or the West Chatham Middle School Gym. 
  • Summer Basketball: Practices begin the first week of June.  The season will run thru the end of July. Age control for Summer Basketball is June 1st.  

Baseball: Pooler Recreation provides all uniforms and necessary equipment. You will be responsible for providing your own glove 

  • Registration begins the second week of January and runs thru the second week of February. 
  • Practices will begin the first of week of March.  Games will begin the first week of April and the season will run thru the middle of May. 
  • Evaluations will occur the week before practice starts.  The draft (attended by coaches only) will occur after the evaluations.  All evaluations will take place at Pooler Park on Rogers Street. Age Control is May 1st

5/6 Baseball: The baseball program for boys ages 5 to 6 is a competitive recreational league that focuses on the FUNdamentals of baseball, including teamwork.  Teams will practice one day a week, for about an hour and the practices occur during the week as well as Saturday mornings. Once games begin, coaches willhave to call for available practice time.

8U and 10U Baseball: The baseball program for boys ages 7 to 10 is a competitive recreational league that focuses on the FUNdamentals of baseball, including teamwork.  These age groups utilize a pitching machine rather than live pitching.    

  • Teams will practice two times per week, for about an hour and the practices could occur Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday evenings, as well as Saturday mornings.  Once games begin, coaches will have to call for available practice time. 

12U and 14U Baseball: The baseball program for boys ages 11 to 14 is a competitive recreational league that focuses on the FUNdamentals of baseball, including teamwork.  These age groups play live pitch baseball.  

  • Teams will practice two times per week, for about an hour and the practices could occur Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday evenings, as well as Saturday mornings.  Once games begin, coaches will have to call for available practice time.  Home games and practices will be held at Pooler Park or Pooler Complex

8u and 10U: The softball program for girls ages 7 to 10 is a competitive recreational league that focuses on the FUNdamentals of softball, including teamwork.  These age groups utilize a pitching machine rather than live pitching.

12U Softball: The softball program for girls ages 11 to 12 is a competitive recreational league that focuses on the FUNdamentals of softball, including teamwork.  These age groups play fast pitch softball.  

  • Pooler Recreation provides all uniforms and necessary equipment. You will be responsible for providing your own glove
  • Teams will practice two times per week, for about an hour and the practices could occur Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday evenings, as well as Saturday mornings.  Once games begin, coaches will have to call for available practice time.  Home games and practices will be held at Pooler Park on Rogers Street. 

Tball:  The Tee Ball program is designed to introduce children to the game of baseball or softball.  It is open to boys ages 4 years old and girls, ages 4 to 6. Tball games are played in a relaxed manner, where everyone hits and everyone scores. 

  • Registration begins the second week of January and runs thru the end of February. Practice starts the third week in April and the season runs thru May.
  • Practices and games will be held Saturday mornings, at Pooler Park, on Rogers Street.

Soccer: The soccer program for youth ages 4 to 12 is a competitive recreational league that focuses on the FUNdamentals of soccer, including teamwork.  

  • Teams will practice two times per week, practice could occur Tuesday/Thursday.
  • Pooler Recreation provides all uniforms and necessary equipment. You will be responsible for providing shin guards and cleats.
  • Fall Soccer Registration begins the second week of June and ends the third week of July.  Age control date is August 1st. Practice will start in August. Games will start the week after Labor day.
  • Spring Soccer Registration begins the second week of January and runs thru the third week of       February. Age control date is Jan 1st. Practice will start in March. Games will start the end of March.    

Football:  The tackle football program is a FUNdamental recreation program for youth ages 7 - 12 years.  The program teaches basic skills, teamwork and sportsmanship, while competing with other local teams. 

  • Practice starts the first full week of August.  Games start first Saturday after Labor Day. Participants practice three times per week until games begin.  Practices will be Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, starting at 6pm and ending about 7:30pm.  After games start, practice times will vary.  Games will generally be played on Tuesday or Thursday evenings, or Saturday mornings.  All practices and home games are held at Pooler Park, on Rogers Street. 
  •  Registration starts the second week of June and ends the third week of July. Go back to home page and click online registration to register
  • Pooler Recreation supplies all pads, game pants, and game jersey. You are responsible for providing a helmet, mouth piece, and cleats, as well as a practice jersey/pants.
  • Evaluations will be held the first two weeks of football practice. All coaches will evaluate the players and participate in the draft. After the first two weeks, players will be split into multiple teams in 8u and 10u. After the teams are split a coach will notify you that your child is on their team. We will continue to have one team from each age group participate in the South Georgia league and others will participate in the in-house league. Both leagues will travel some, to other local rec departments. If you want your child to participate in the in-house league only, please notify the recreation staff.

Pep Squad:

  • Girls ages 7-12 years will learn cheers and halftime routines. Practices are Tuesdays and Thursdays evenings 
  •  Registration starts the second week of June and ends the third week of July.
  •  Practice starts in August  Games start first Saturday after Labor Day.  The season runs thru the second week of November . Pooler Recreation provides all uniforms and necessary equipment. You will be responsible for providing white shoes and no show socks.
